I do no set a time limit upon my prayer but I try to have a personal devtional time each day that includes prayer, reading of the Word & devotional material and personal worship. The time normally takes 2o to 90 minutes. I try to remain in an attitude of prayer throughout the day. I send up sentence and thought prayers all day long. I find that the biggest distraction is my work and thought life connected to it. I can easily get so busy doing the work of God that limit and even eliminate on some days the practice of prayer. What drives me to prayer are three things. First, the awareness that prayer is essential to my spiritual existance and vitatliy. I think it was EM Bounds that said that prayer is to the Soul what breath is to the body. A key reminder to me is Psalm 127:1-3. (The 2nd draw to prayer.) Whatever we do must begin at the direction of prayer, be sustainded by prayer and be advanced and overcome all obstacles by the power of prayer. Finally, I am drawn to renewed prayer by both times of special fasting & consecration as well as in time of trial, persecution and affliction.
