We must ever be advancing in our prayer life, a praying Christian is a powerful Christian – likewise a praying church is a powerful church. If we’re going to stand in our day we need to pray as never before! If our churches are going to impact the world we need to pray as never before! Jesus said you have not because you ask not. Simply put we don’t have the nations because we have not asked for the nations, that is the lost souls that the church is drowning in everyday. We must determine, I mean really determine to make prayer a priority over everything else. We need to determine to rise 15 min early – just to pray, tarry 15 min longer before going to bed – just to pray, put aside the newspaper – just to pray, turn off the T.V. – just to pray. Then we’ll see a change in our own lives that will leave us hungry for more and before long we will be prayer-addicts! Consider these words by James Gilmour of Mongolia: "My Creed leads me to think that prayer is efficacious, and surely a day’s asking God to overrule all events for good is not lost. Still there is a great feeling that when a man is praying he’s doing nothing, and this feeling makes us give undue importance to work, sometimes even to the hurrying over or even to the neglect of prayer. Do not we rest in our day too much on the arm of flesh? Cannot the same wonders be done now as of old? Do not the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth still to show Himself strong on behalf of those who put their trust in Him? Oh that God would give me more practical faith in Him! Where is now the Lord God of Elijah? He is waiting for Elijah to call on Him." Here’s the rub – it’s the Lord’s work not ours, but it is carried upon the breath of our prayers – think about it, God has not changed.
